Emma - Peace Of Mind Inspires Creativity
Emma Hanson is an imaginative and multi-talented illustrator from Sweden. We had a chat with her about her creative influences and ideas that makes her artwork so striking.
FIRSTLY, EMMA, PLEASE INTRODUCE YOURSELF...
Hi my name is Emma, I am 24 years old, a soon to be student that lives in Gothenburg, Sweden! I am a happy, outgoing person who loves to travel, draw, drink coffee and explore the city I live in.
YOUR ILLUSTRATIONS ARE PRETTY AMAZING, DID YOU GET QUALIFIED OR ARE YOU SELF TAUGHT?
Wow thank you so very much! I am all self taught. There is so much on the internet to be inspired and learn from.
HOW WOULD YOU DESCRIBE YOUR ILLUSTRATION STYLE?
I would say mostly fashion illustrations and that´s what I really try to develop. But I really love to draw other things too, so I am open to try new things.
WHAT INSPIRES YOU TO DRAW?
There is not something or someone who inspires me to draw really. I just really love how I can fade out for a couple of hours and just relax while drawing. It gives me peace and it makes me happy. I really love having side projects to work on and it stimulates me.
HOW DO YOU OVERCOME CREATIVE BLOCKS?
Oh if I only knew how! I think the key to get rid of the creative blocks is to have discipline and draw even when you don´t feel like it. But that is way more easy to say than do. There is a lot of times when my mind goes blank and I really don´t know what to draw. My ideas often comes to me when I just draw for the sake of it and I continue to push through.
WHAT MAKES YOU HAPPY?
The simple, small things in life and the amazing people I have around me. They continue to make me grow as a person and together we create great memories to look back on. I love that, that makes me happy.
AS CREATIVE AS YOU ARE, APART FROM ILLUSTRATING, WHAT´S YOUR OTHER TALENT?
It´s hard to put myself under the label of having a "talent" but I do love and have a interest for a lot of creative things. I love to play around with my camera, play guitar and I have always loved to play theatre and write short novels.

WHAT PLANS HAVE YOU GOT FOR THE FUTURE?
I am going to school this upcoming semester where I am going to study media and communication. I am excited to see if it´s something for me. I am excited to get to know myself a little bit better and see if I somehow can combine the things I learn from school to my drawings.
