Creative photographer Olivia Doan captures magic moments in a playful way that is vivid and natural. We´re so happy to got the chance to chat with one of our favourite surf photographers.
FIRSTLY, OLIVIA, PLEASE INTRODUCE YOURSELF, WHERE´S YOUR HOME AND WHAT´S THE VIBE LIKE THERE?
My name is Olivia Doan, I'm fifteen-years-old, and I am a freelance lifestyle/surf photographer based in Southern California. I am from Leucadia, which is a small beach town in northern San Diego County. It's is such an incredible place to live and have grown up in. Everyone is so welcoming.
WHY DID YOU CHOOSE PHOTOGRAPHY, WHAT INSPIRED YOU?
In a way, I think that photography chose me. Growing up in such a beautiful place, you are bound to want to capture every moment possible.
I actually started out modeling for a while, until I realized I was on the wrong side of the lens. I found myself correcting photographers at shoots until I finally noticed that taking the photos was truly what I wanted to do.
APART FROM YOUR CAMERA, WHAT THINGS YOU NEVER LEAVE HOME WITHOUT?
My phone, wallet, swimsuit, and a notebook.
HOW WOULD YOU DESCRIBE YOUR STYLE?
Beachy-grunge.
WHAT IS YOUR FAVOURITE THING TO PHOTOGRAPH AND HOW DO YOU ACHIEVE IT?
One of my favorite things to photograph is definitely surfers. Being out in the water with my camera in the middle of all the action is so fun. It is harder to get photos because your camera is in an underwater housing, but I enjoy the challenge.

Passionate, adventurous, creative
WHERE WOULD BE YOUR DREAM DESTINATION ASSIGNMENT?
Way to many to pick one... my top 6 would be the Maldives, Tahiti, Great Barrier Reef, Fiji, Tavarua Island, or the Mentawais (Indonesia).
WHAT´S YOUR AMBITION?
To make a living doing what I love. Travel and see the world while capturing it is all I could ask for.
DESCRIBE THE PHOTOS YOU´VE CHOSEN FOR THIS PAGE, WHAT IS IT ABOUT THEM THAT YOU LIKE?
All of them have stories behind them. When I look at the photos I see memories. It's so cool to me that you can capture a moment and look back on it with the memories in mind.
WHICH SONG SUMS UP YOUR LIFE RIGHT NOW?
It would have to be "Stop This Train" or "Waiting On The World To Change" by John Mayer.
ANY ADVICE FOR GIRLS WANTING TO GET INTO PHOTOGRAPHY?
Just go for it. You don't need the best equipment to get a good photo. Photos don't stand out because of their quality, they stand out because of their artistic features. Don't be afraid to reach out to companies you want to work with, and constantly keep taking photos. It's how you are going to build your craft.
